We Should Have Surrendered on December 8, 1941

At least according to the logic of the Senate Majority "Leader", Harry Reid. My previous post about the libs is once again shown to be true. The left in this country has no idea about leadership, and the important role that leadership, optimism, and dedication have in success.

Americans have died, and more will die, in Iraq. Is that why we want to quit and go home? We all know the "...day that will live in infamy" part, but here is another portion of President Roosevelt's December 8, 1942 speech before Congress requesting a declaration of war:

No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.

I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounding determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God.

Here is what Harry Reid said: "I believe myself that the secretary of state, secretary of defense and — you have to make your own decisions as to what the president knows — (know) this war is lost and the surge is not accomplishing anything as indicated by the extreme violence in Iraq (Wednesday)," Reid said.

Think about the alternative to Roosevelt's message. What do you think the world would look like today if he had said this: "Yesterday we were attacked because we have forced the Japanese to hate us because of our trade practices. We created this mess, and my administration is the reason that American children have died. We lost 2,500 men yesterday, and we have lost this war. What sense does it make to have more men die just to win on a battlefield? There is nothing in the Western Pacific worth dying for, and while normally we should listen to our allies, on this occasion they are asking us to get involved and I don't think we can afford it.

Going to war is an important decision, but in the process American corporations might turn a profit. This situation would prove disastrous. Our soldiers, who are already stupid because they can't do anything but serve in the military, are already mercenaries who only serve so that they can support their families. They would get tired of being at war anyway, and we don't want to inconvenience them.

Today I am asking Congress, who is the ultimate authority for fighting wars, to withdraw all troops west of California, and to recall all ships at sea in the Pacific. Having our ships close to someone else's shores might cause them discomfort, and we can't afford to be at fault for someone shooting at us again.

Does that about sum up the range of left wing statements about this subject? Do you think that speech would have heartened America, or discouraged us? The only reason that Germany and Japan did not conquer the world is because the U.S. entered the war. It is too bad we have cowards in office who can't respect our greatness.
